Spanish Macs from the York channel...

I'm back in action boyz! Here's some shots from a GREAT 2 days of fishing in deep water for macs and blues. The technique my friend Gray and I found on fishing for them is extremely effective and I'll have to share it with everyone at some point. Sat we caught 14 macs and 5 under-sized flounder in about 4 hours. On Sun we landed 12 in about 2 hours!!

Here's my friend Grays INSANELY cool dog Bo:

And Let There be Fish

Woooooohooooo, Summer Vacation 2008 has started! Friday I got up at 5:30 to start it off right, grabbed the trusty canoe and headed to RB solo and fished some new drifts. I caught 15 or 20 before 3pm. One of them being the suspect above, decked out in full camouflage.

Saturday Adam and I went for my first local float i had mapped out on google sat photos and it worked great, such as the cool rapids (bad photo) at the first big drop in elevation.

Adam's first smallmouth, caught on top water no less, by the middle of the day, he was kickin ass. I bet he caught 8 or 9 bass...
...Including this sweet light bronze 15 incher, hell yeah!

Here was the catch of the day, a monster 17 incher - thick and fat! we caught several nice fish today and had lots of action, I lost track of how many fish I caught, great time and a really fun paddle, cool riffles, bald eagles, deer, carp island, good stuff. Expect to see more in the next few weeks. Who wants to come fish with me this month?

7-19-08 Riverbend Solo Canoe

Holy crap, I paddled 3 miles upstream and ate lunch on an island that was carp city. I just ate my sandwich, drank coke and looked at these huge fish, the biggest much larger in circumference than my thigh and over 3 feet long.
I floated back, catching well over 30 smallies, a few huge bluegill, and some catfish on gitzits, I even had two 15-20 lb cats chase two different 13 inch smallies I had caught. The biggest 3 fish went 12-13 inches and fat. Lots of 10-12. I saw several 3-5 lbers on the float. The huge 8-20 lb blue cats were everywhwere, I saw at least fifty all day, no shit. Awesome Saturday.
So which one of my buddies is going to stop being a pussy and come up here to fish? I have several floats, including one with the the start and end points both within 11 miles of our place...

7-13-08 Riverbend Solo Canoe

I love having a canoe. I have cleaned it all up , removed peeling decals, applied plastic conditioner to the hull, and repaired popped rivets in the seat mounts and keel support. I think I might even put some real classy redneck stickers of a Smallie, oh yeah. they will go well with my mustache project I plan to get going in august while on some fishing trips. I took my first solo river paddle, going 1.5 miles upstream and floating back. I caught 25+ fish including a 13.5 and 17 incher (not to mention some huge bluegills).

Bay Fishing with Greg and Blair

the weather was beautiful. We looked for flounder and found few. We searched for specks and found few. Blair and I bottom fished coming up with a nice blue, and mess of croaker and spot. The grass beds looked great, just couldn't get the right tide. Crabfeast on my birthday (notice my beverage of choice). Then I started working insanely, only having 2 days and a morning in June of fishing.

Memorial Day 2008 - NC Backwater with Shad

Loaded up

The big dog estimated at 14 lbs and 34 inches

Shad needed a fishing trip and he got one. I've never fished in backwater infused with cypress stumps... not many catfish and no bass i could see, but we got plenty of panfish for dinner and caught our first Bowfin, including one of Shads that was probably two pounds short of the state record, no shit. Here are the pics...
oh yeah - greg and I went out and caught our limit of rockfish the night before I went to NC, my only spring rockfish trip. These rocks are for you Blair!

Belated Summer Posts

Man I've been working too much, and the blog is suffering (although, I don't see any posts from the other boys, come on guys!). I've been working 3 jobs, and now i am close to just working one, so more adventure coming, the next few posts are belated ones, not much time to write, but here are the pics will be in the next few posts...

Flounder Pounders

Yep - its that time of year again and from the sounds of it, The Captain has a couple of hundred prime guinea mullet in his bait pen. I have permission to raid it later tomorrow before meeting up with Captain Blair for a Hampton Bar/HRBT flounder excursion. We are in search of doormats. (These pics are from last summer)

Packing Up

Spring Largemouth caught in a downpour two weekends ago.

I have fished once this month, jeez, but i think I will make up for it Friday - Monday. I'm getting ready to pack up for the alligator river in NC. Shad and I are going to a cabin on his granddad's land. We plan on catching a bunch of largemouth bass and some catfish out of my canoe and a 12 foot v-bottom outfitted with my little 3.3 HP mercury. Firday night on the way down, I am fishing the docks for rocks with Captain Greg of course - then its freshwater for the rest of the weekend. Monday I hope to stop by and see Macy at Blair and Wendy's (I guess I better call them, huh?)
Here is the canoe I am getting from Captain Greg - I will christen it this weekend, but there are many more paddles to happen in it! Smallmouth float anyone? I've got at least five I want to try out around here...

Careful Man, there's a beverage here!

Dude, Pete at the Fishing Jones has a great video posted from the Big Lebowski.
